  • Wanna skip the whole “class thing”?

Come on in for a quick 30–45-minute private session!

Choose “Hybrid Learning” or skip the online pre-work, and just “test out”.

  • It’s important to note that both classes include information about CPR. The differences are the curriculum and who attends.

    • CPR/AED is a CPR class for regular/standard applications. Many participants include First Aid when completing CPR AED training. A wide variety of people attend CPR AED classes such as new parents, personal trainers, childcare workers, and other people in non-healthcare/medical work settings or roles.

    • Basic Life Support (BLS for short), also called CPR for Healthcare Providers is a version of Adult and Pediatric CPR training for those that work in healthcare or medical settings, or are professional rescuers. BLS is more in-depth and complex than standard CPR training. Another difference is it includes more topics (such as respiratory arrest, variations in opening the airway, cardiac arrest in pregnancy, and teamwork).

    • What to select: Not sure if your employer requires standard CPR or BLS/CPR for Healthcare Providers? Be sure to check your organization requirements before completing your registration!

  • Differences

What’s the difference between the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (Red Cross), and American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) training programs?

Simply put, the main difference is the organization name that appears on your certification card!

The material you learn is virtually identical, with very slight differences from a “textbook” point of view.

    What’s the Same

All three adhere to international and U.S. standards. However, some employers, schools, and organizations have a specific requirement for either AHA or Red Cross. Some accept both AHA and Red Cross. And some also accept ASHI, where the primary distinction is lower cost.

    What to Choose

So, which should you get? That depends on what is accepted by your employer, school, or organization! Check your paperwork, or ask a manager, administrator, or HR rep for clarification, then make your selection! For Basic Life Support (BLS), Purple conveniently offers the option to get both AHA AND Red Cross in one! This is a great choice if you’re not sure what you need. And, it’s perfect for those in school or job hunting since each organization has different requirements.

If you are getting recertified, and if you work or go to school at the same place as before, then probably the easiest thing to do is use the same organization. But, it never hurts to check — maybe you can recertify via a different organization and pay less this time!

Note: We’re excited to be adding ASHI soon. It’s an excellent budget-friendly option to look out for in 2 years next time you choose Purple for your training.

    • What is Hybrid? (also called “Blended”) Attend a short 1.5-hour in-person class.

    • How it works: Before your in-person class, study online at your own pace, through the official AHA or Red Cross system.

The certification is the same as a traditional class, just less time spent in a classroom! ✅

    • Two types of “Hybrid” to choose from

Hybrid “Skills Session” means you’re paying Purple only for the in-person portion, and you purchase the online learning separately (we give you the link).

    • Hybrid “Full Package” means you’re saving some money by purchasing both the online AND in-person parts through Purple.

    • My organization says I need an in-person only class! Great. This meets that requirements. They’re talking about online ONLY scam classes. With Hybrid, you’re still meeting with an instructor. So, you get the same official certification for work/school/OSHA.

    • Does the certification say the class is part online? No! This is just another official way to take the class. The important requirement for school or work is for the class to have a part that meets with tan instructor who observes your skills. Once you’re done with the pre-learning, Hybrid classes still meet with an instructor.

    • Does the certification say it’s part online? Nope! It’s the same certification that just says the class. It’ll be either through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross — whichever you choose below.

    • Access & links to online prework are provided after sign-up! ✉️

    • Looking for fully-in-classroom instead? Although the certification is the same either way, some prefer to skip any online work. To look for other class types - start here:
      purplehs.com/signup

    • Hybrid “Full Package” means both online AND in-person parts are included with this purchase

    • Hybrid “Skills Session” includes the in-person session. The online prework must be purchased separately through the Red Cross or AHA (whichever you sign up for below). If you’ve already purchased it, great! If not, a link is sent automatically after sign-up.

    • Online pre-work price ($): For Hybrid Skills Sessions, the online pre-work costs $37 for Red Cross classes, and $21 for American Heart Association (AHA) classes.

These prices were last updated 12/3/24. Keep in mind prices may have changed slightly since the last time we updated this!

    • Perfect for anyone who needs knows their skills. No need to keep doing the same class over & over!

    • Not available through AHA (American Heart Association) - only available with Re Cross

    • No online prework required. Just test out and get on with your day.

    • You can warm-up and practice before, so you feel comfortable. Then, demonstrate your skills, and take the exam. It's a fast, convenient way to fulfill OSHA requirements.

    • How Long Does it Take? Just the Test First Aid CPR AED can take as little as 5 to 10 minutes. However, 30 minutes is set aside, so there’s plenty of time to practice, and demonstrate your skills.

    • No written exam required. To test out of First Aid CPR AED, Red Cross simply requires a skills test.

    • Also known as Red Cross “Challenge” course

  • 💜 Private Traditional Class (100% In-Class)
Prefer the classic classroom style? This is a full in-person class—no online prework needed. It’s perfect for anyone who wants everything taught live, in the room, with an instructor.

    ⏰ How It Works
Just show up! We cover everything together in class: lecture, skills, and exam.

    📘 Materials Info
AHA participants are required to own a manual (print or digital). Full instructions and links will be in your Purple Training Guide after registering. Red Cross participants don’t need one, but can buy one if they’d like. Feel free to bring paper for notes! Purple can’t give out AHA or Red Cross manuals to take home due to copyright rules.

Remember, Hybrid “Skills Session” includes only the in-person session. The online prework must be purchased separately through the Red Cross or AHA (whichever you sign up for below).

Purchase link: If you’ve already purchased the online pre-work, great! If not, a link is sent automatically after sign-up.

  • All times shown are available. We don’t cancel for low enrollment, so pick what works best for you in confidence! ✅🛡️

  • Look for the option that says “Informational Class”. It’s the same class minus the certification, for those who just want the information. Saves some money, too!
