Live Online Classroom
Similarities Between “Self-Paced Online” and “Live Online Classroom”
Both “Self-Paced Online” and “Live Online Classroom” allow you the convenience of learning from anywhere – home, office, or wherever! This flexibility is especially beneficial if you’re sick, have a physical limitation, or are concerned about health risks in a group classroom setting. Plus, there is no need to travel anywhere, so you can save a lot of time.
Self-Paced Online: The Basics
Self-Paced Online is all about learning on your terms. It's a modern approach that frees you from the constraints of deadlines and physical classrooms. Self-Paced Online: What People Like
Control Your Learning Speed: Whether you want to breeze through the lessons or take your time, the choice is yours.
Learn on Your Terms: There is no pre-set schedule – you can fit your learning into your day as you see fit.
No Hands-On Skills Pressure: Perfect for those who are anxious about skills tests in a classroom with other participants.
Revisit Materials Anytime: You have access to class materials for 1-2 years after completion. This allows you to review and refresh your memory as often as you like!
Stress-Free Testing: Quizzes & exams can be re-taken multiple times, removing the pressure of a traditional classroom test environment.
Accessible: Self-Paced Online removes barriers like travel, hands-on practice, and a physical classroom setup. By the way – If you are actually more interested in a traditional classroom experience, don’t worry. Purple is committed to making any accommodations we can to help as many people as possible have access to a classroom in which they can succeed. There’s an enrollment question that allows you to share with us what we can do to make the class work for you. To explore a more traditional classroom experience, follow this link.
Self-Paced Online: Key Considerations
Keep in mind that while some Self-Paced Online Classes may fulfill certain work or school requirements on their own, sometimes they need to be supplemented with an instructor-facilitated hands-on session. For more info, take a look at the question just below. And, always verify your specific requirements. Remember, Self-Paced Online means no in-person hands-on sessions are included.
Live Online Classroom: The Basics
Live Online Classroom connects you with an instructor in real-time, at a scheduled time, through a virtual classroom platform like Zoom. Depending on the class's requirements, Purple either sends all necessary equipment to your doorstep or provides a list of basic items you'll need for the session.
Live Online Classroom: What People Like
Real-Time Interaction: Instructors are available in real-time for questions and help.
Fulfills Official Requirements: Accepted for workplace requirements due to the use of approved equipment and instructor-led, hands-on skill assessments.
Practice Hands-On Skills: Experience practical hands-on training with the same equipment as a traditional physical class, but you choose your environment.
Live Online Classroom: Key Considerations
The Live Online Classroom typically has a higher cost compared to Self-Paced Online, mainly due to the live interaction with an instructor and the equipment shipped directly to you. Purple’s Live Online Classroom option is, however, a cost-effective option for many, especially when also considering the added convenience.

The short answer is — sometimes yes, sometimes no. It depends on whether your work or school is subject to any administrative or insurance requirements, or if they follow OSHA (Occupation Safety and Health and Administration) regulations, or possibly if management or organizational leadership has specific preferences.
Online Course Acceptance
Some courses, like Bloodborne Pathogens or Anaphylaxis, are often accepted in online-only formats by many organizations. However, it's crucial to confirm with your work and school first.
Certain Training May Need Hands-On
For example, an emergency where a patient/victim needs CPR or First Aid requires both knowledge and physical skills.
So, for some courses, you may be required by your work or school to complete a physical hands-on component, for at least part of the class. Or, you may be able to simply complete an online-only course. Schools and workplaces NOT governed by OSHA can decide how these trainings are conducted. However, OSHA-regulated organizations must include a hands-on component in their CPR and First Aid training.
Be sure to check with your organization to know if your First Aid or CPR training is required to include hands-on learning.
Hybrid Learning can be an Ideal Solution
If you are required to have an in-person skills session, but you also prefer online learning – Purple offers classes that combine online learning and instructor-led hands-on sessions, licensed by both Red Cross and American Heart Association. This is “Hybrid Learning” – a learning option that meets work and school requirements. To learn about Purple’s “Hybrid Learning” classes, follow this link.
Beware of Misleading Claims
Caution! There are sites out there, offering 100% online-only First Aid or CPR courses as universally accepted. BUT – the fact is, some online-only courses may not meet your work / school / regulatory standards.
Purple Health and Safety wants you to be able to get the training you need – we offer many class options, including online-only. It is your job to select and enroll in the right training for you! Make sure that your class meets your requirements 🙂
