Songs to do CPR to

If someone is in cardiac arrest, swift action with CPR and using an AED could be life-saving. Each year in the US, sudden cardiac arrest takes place more than 356,000 times outside of the hospital setting. A staggering nearly 90% of those cardiac arrest events result in death. A 2015 study found that the chances of survival are closely tied to how quickly a person in cardiac arrest receives CPR.

This is why, at Purple, our goal is to help as many people as possible learn to perform CPR correctly.

What are the basic steps to administer CPR?

    1. Check the scene for safety.

    2. For 5-10 seconds, check for responsiveness and breathing (and a pulse for those with BLS training). If there’s no responsiveness or breathing (or pulse, if checked):

    3. Call 911 or ask someone to do so, and get an AED and first aid kit, if available.

    4. Immediately begin CPR with chest compressions between 100 and 120 beats per minute compressions per minute.

    5. Administer compressions and breaths at a ratio of 30 compressions to 2 breaths.

    6. Use the AED as soon as one becomes available.

    7. Continue administering CPR until advanced healthcare professionals arrive on the scene.

    1. Check if the person is responsive and breathing. If there’s no breathing or responsiveness:

    2. Call 911 or the relevant emergency-response number.

    3. Place the heel of one hand in the center of the person’s chest and the other on top.

    4. Push hard and fast in the center of the chest. The correct rate is 100-120 compressions per minute.

    5. Continue until EMS personnel arrive, the scene becomes unsafe, or you are too tired to continue.
